The first book edition, published by Longmans, Green, and Co., London, on 15 October 1894, featured 16 illustrations by <a href="http://www.visualhaggard.org/illustrators/8">Arthur Layard</a>. Longmans issued 10,000 copies in this printing. Longmans, New York, included the Layard illustrations in the first US edition published in 1894. George Newnes, London, published an edition c. 1906, which features 8 illustrations by <a href="http://www.visualhaggard.org/illustrators/12">Cyrus Cuneo</a>. In c. 1923 Hodder & Stoughton, London, published an edition with an illustrated dust jacket.
